Two Pennies Scholarship

Change – One Opportunity at a Time.

We are hoping to provide our first Two Pennies Scholarship to Acquah Priscilla Phyllis.  Priscilla is 18 years-old and has the passion to become a teacher.  In order for this dream to become a reality, she must finish her final year in Senior High School with good enough scores to gain her admittance into the University of Cape Coast.  This is a daunting enough experience for anyone living in Ghana, and Priscilla is no exception.

Priscilla’s father died when she was young, leaving her mother and siblings without a sustainable income.  Her mother sells purified water on the street for 6 cents a bag.  Even if this was enough to provide for the family (which it isn’t), there is nothing left over for education.  A woman in the community was kind enough to take Pricilla into her home and care for  her.  As payment, she helps run the bar which sits on the property.  She often is serving drinks until 10:00 at night.  There is no time for concentrated studies.  No income for the tuition and books for her final year.

This is where the Two Pennies hopes to make a difference.  It is our goal and hope to provide Priscilla with a scholarship.  We would love for this opportunity to be provided 100% by teachers.  We had the chance to talk to her headmaster in the school she currently attends and he spoke her work ethic and capability.  He also related the helplessness of her situation if she can’t devote herself to her studies in her final year.  [/two_third][one_third]

Her dream is more of a prayer at this point.

To cover the cost of her tuition, books, and housing at the hostel (3 meals a day) is the equivalent of $1500 US.  This means that if we could assemble 15 teachers to donate $10 per month for the next 10 months – we would have it.

Ideally we wouldn’t stop here.  We would love for you to send letters of encouragement to Priscilla.  If we are able to raise the funding, we will receiving regular updates.  How amazing would it be for a group of teachers to provide a once in a lifetime opportunity to someone on the other side of the ocean.

Teachers – join us in this incredible opportunity!
